Tarrant County Release Records
“Released” describes departure from a named custodian, not necessarily freedom from all custody. Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office centrally books people at the Corrections Center and maintains the practical jail record for its county facilities. A community departure may follow bond, time served, sentence completion, dismissal, or another court order. A departure can instead be a transfer to TDCJ, another county, federal authorities, or ICE.
Release is the completed departure from one custodian. Discharge commonly marks completion of a correctional obligation or sentence. Parole is conditional prison release decided by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles and supervised by TDCJ Parole Division. Probation, also called community supervision, is ordered by a court and supervised locally by Tarrant County CSCD. Time served means credited confinement satisfies the custody ordered in that matter.
A released person normally falls off the current TCSO roster. The lasting evidence is the booking-specific Sheriff record, a Letter of Incarceration for the released person, and the relevant court disposition. These records answer different questions. The jail record establishes custody dates and outcome; the court instrument explains the legal authority or case result.

A bond report, favorable parole vote, projected date, or court dismissal is not the same as physical departure. The decisive fact is the actual release or transfer transaction, paired with the receiving-custodian record when custody continued.
Tarrant Sheriff Release Record Fields
A useful release record identifies one booking rather than compiling a person’s entire criminal history. Ask for the public portions of the known event.

The public TCSO search shows identity and an “In Custody?” status, but not this full history. Its rotating booked-in PDFs list CID, book-in date, booking number, and charge. Neither source is a historical release ledger.
Request Tarrant County Release Records
Use the Sheriff public-records page, its linked portal, regular mail, in-person delivery, or ordinary email. TCSO Records Division is at 200 Taylor Street, sixth floor, Fort Worth, TX 76196; phone 817-884-2942; email TCSO_Records@tarrantcountytx.gov. The office says encrypted email will not be opened.
- Identify the full name, date of birth or CID, booking number, and narrow date range.
- Ask for the booking or confinement record, book-in and book-out timestamps, actual release date and time, disposition, public transfer destination, and booking photograph if needed.
- Request electronic copies and segregable public portions so protected material can be redacted.
- Provide contact information for clarification and a cost estimate.
- Pair the response with the court order or disposition if the legal outcome matters.
First-person jail-date proof: The released individual may request a Letter of Incarceration at Sheriff Records, generally between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., with valid state photo identification and arrival by 4:50 p.m. No verbal request is accepted. The published process does not ordinarily let a friend obtain the letter for someone already released.
No reviewed TCSO page promises a release-record retention term, fixed booking-photo fee, or guaranteed completion date. Texas procedures permit clarification, charges, estimates, and legal exceptions. Certain agency actions have ten-business-day deadlines, but that is not a promise that every request finishes in ten days.
Tarrant Release Record Access Limits
Public Information Act. Texas Government Code chapter 552 governs recorded information held by TCSO and TDCJ, subject to exceptions and other confidentiality law. Judicial records follow court and clerk access rules rather than the executive-branch PIA.
Juvenile information, medical details, active law-enforcement interests, certain compiled criminal history, sealed or nondisclosed records, and expunged material require special handling. Request a specific booking and its segregable public portions. A mugshot is not automatically public in every circumstance merely because it exists in a government record system.
State release-date law is also case-specific. Government Code chapters 498 and 508 address good time, parole, and mandatory supervision, while Code of Criminal Procedure article 42A.054 identifies specified offenses. Texas does not apply one universal “serve 85 percent” rule. Eligibility, projected release, scheduled release, and actual departure are distinct.
Tarrant Bond Is Not Release
The TCSO Bond Desk accepts bonds 24 hours a day at the Corrections Center, 100 N. Lamar. A personal-bond releasee receives paperwork stating the next court location, date, and time. Posting or issuance of bond authorizes a route toward release, but paperwork, property, another hold, transportation, or transfer processing can remain. Use the book-out entry to confirm departure. Tarrant Expunction Changes Release Records
Tarrant’s Felony/Civil division handles felony and misdemeanor expunction proceedings and felony nondisclosures, generally through e-filing. Its local recipient list includes the DA Expunction Unit, County Clerk, CSCD, Criminal Courts, DPS, and TCSO Records. Petitioners must identify agencies holding responsive material.
The county Law Library distinguishes expunction, which permanently removes eligible records, from nondisclosure, which seals certain eligible matters from ordinary public view. Eligibility is case-specific and does not follow automatically from release or dismissal. Missing records may therefore reflect a legal order rather than a search failure. The published contacts are 817-884-1231 for expunction and 817-884-2508 for nondisclosure.
Search for a Released Tarrant Inmate
Why names vanish: A missing live-roster result can mean community release, transfer, correction, or mismatch. It cannot prove freedom from custody.
- Identify the last custodian and approximate date: city detention, TCSO, TDCJ, BOP, or ICE.
- Use that agency’s live search only to rule in current custody.
- For a recent Fort Worth event, review FWPD’s explicit release and transfer statuses.
- For a county booking, obtain the TCSO book-out or the released person’s Letter of Incarceration.
- Search the County Clerk for Class A or B misdemeanor outcomes and District Clerk for felony outcomes.
- If TDCJ may have received the person, check current TDCJ custody, then TDCJ IVSS and a historical-record request.
- Check BOP or ICE when federal or immigration custody is possible.
- Use IVSS-Counties to receive status alerts, then verify the event with the reporting agency.

Tarrant TDCJ Released-Offender Lookup
The familiar TDCJ Online Inmate Search includes only people currently incarcerated in a TDCJ facility. Search by exact last name and at least a first initial, or a seven-digit TDCJ number or SID. Gender and race can narrow results. Details may show location, conviction information, projected release date, and, after operational scheduling, scheduled release date and location.

A person missing from the current-only search is not proven released. Use TDCJ IVSS for offender status, facility, expected or actual release fields, and number-history intake and release dates, then request the underlying record when formal proof is needed. Tarrant Recent-Release Sources
The TCSO live search accepts last name, first name, CID, race, sex, and records-to-display settings. It reports current custody, not a historical release date or reason. The 14 daily booked-in PDFs show intake fields, and the 14 daily bond reports show bond activity. Neither is a release feed.
The closest official recent-status source is FWPD Recent Arrests, which retains 14 days and distinguishes released routes from transfer. It is limited to Fort Worth temporary detention. No official TCSO inmate-release mobile app or released-person photo gallery was located in the official channels reviewed.
Tarrant Releases Before County Booking
A Fort Worth arrestee can leave temporary detention without ever entering the TCSO booking system. FWPD labels include Released, Released by Jail Sergeant, Released PR Bond, Released Surety Bond, Released Class C Only, and Transferred to Tarrant County Jail. “Transferred” means custody continued. This makes the arresting agency the first search decision rather than an afterthought.
Tarrant Court Release Proof Lasts
The Tarrant court-document guide routes Class A and B misdemeanor judgments, dismissals, and plea or trial outcomes to the County Clerk at 817-884-1066. Felony records belong to the District Clerk, with felony questions at 817-884-1342 or 817-884-1343. The public portal supports party and case searches.
Court proof explains authority and case outcome, but may not show the minute jail custody ended. Obtain an official copy when legal reliance matters. Published District Clerk options include free onsite self-service, a $5 clerk-performed basic search, and stated copy charges, which should be verified before ordering.
Tarrant Parole and Release Notifications
The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles decides parole and discretionary mandatory supervision. TDCJ Parole Division supervises people released under those authorities. Tarrant County CSCD supervises court-ordered probation and certain pretrial bond matters. A jail bond release does not automatically create parole or probation.
Texas IVSS-Counties, the current replacement for county VINELink, can send call, text, or email notices about participating-agency custody and court events. TDCJ IVSS separately covers prison and parole events. Both are notification or status tools, not certified release records. Tarrant Post-Release Reentry Navigation
TCSO Re-entry Services offers requested classes at the Corrections Center and Green Bay. The Sheriff reports coordination with roughly 30 to 40 organizations providing 50 to 60 resources; Inmate Services and Chaplain can be reached at 817-884-3088. Separately, the county First-Stop Center at 2300 Circle Drive, Suite 2301, provides orientation and service navigation for adults returning from prison. These are neutral service routes for people returning from custody.
Tarrant Release Can Mean ICE Transfer
Tarrant’s 287(g) participation and ICE detainer procedure make the receiving custodian critical. A detainer asks a jail for advance notice and up to 48 additional hours for ICE to assume custody. A TCSO departure may therefore be an immigration transfer rather than community return.
ICE ODLS searches by nine-digit A-number and country of birth, or exact name and country, with date of birth optional. It may include certain people released from ICE within the preceding 60 days, subject to exclusions and lag. People under 18 are excluded. Check ODLS and the county book-out together.
Tarrant Federal Release Search
The BOP locator covers federal inmates from 1982 forward and accepts BOP, DCDC, FBI, or INS identifiers or a name with optional age, race, and sex. Results can show release date and “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody.” Those phrases concern BOP custody only and do not exclude transfer, immigration custody, or federal supervision.
The U.S. Marshals Service has no public prisoner locator and does not publish arrival or departure times. For a sentenced federal case, use BOP and the federal docket. For pretrial federal custody, consult the docket, counsel, or clerk. FMC Fort Worth does not create a Tarrant County release record.

Tarrant Release Records Span Jail Eras
Tarrant’s detention geography reflects several eras: converted downtown space and secure links at Belknap, Green Bay’s warehouse conversion and expansions, the 2012 opening of Lon Evans, and Cold Springs roles ranging from overflow to labor detail, storage, standby, or renovation. These differences justify separate facility guides, but they do not create separate historical release archives. TCSO central records remain the reliable path for county bookings.

Release information supports personal knowledge, custody verification, notifications, reentry navigation, and court or legal processes. It can be delayed, corrected, sealed, expunged, or lawfully withheld. Compare identifiers and dates, preserve the exact agency wording, and verify consequential facts with the originating office.
